Hill Walking & Scrambling
On our one day and weekend or longer duration meets, we usually organise group walks in all weathers and conditions in the various mountain and upland areas of the UK, Doing classic ascents of well known mountains and routes. Route duration and difficulty is often based on the group's experience and fitness on the day, we are very flexible with our plans and the Leaders are happy to plan their routes around the needs of the group.
On some walks, there may be short sections of rock scrambling, which is an activity somewhere between walking and rock climbing which requires the use of hands on the rock but not the use of ropes and belays. It is an exhilerating activity, particularly on exposed ridges, but it does require a good head for heights as well as some confidence on rock. Anyone who has a fear of heights should let the walk leader know of this before the start of a walk, so that he can plan an easier route as an alternative.
Enjoying a walk as part of a group, often allows you to share in the benefit of others' experience and knowledge about the area visited, local wildlife and flora and fauna and also for those lesser experienced members, chance to learn valuable navigation and mountain skills as well as the benefit of leading legs of the route whilst backed up by a qualified Leader. Also, following our day's walking, we don’t just head for home, often we enjoy post walk refreshments and (in most cases) a cake as well at a nearby tea shop/cafe, where we relax and informally chat.
The club welcomes adults and young people of all levels of experience on our walks.
