Barn Events
The Barn at Causeway Foot Farm near Keswick is the nearest thing that the Club has to its own club hut. It is often used for meets and training courses held by the Club in The Lake District.
It is located at NY 294219, just off the A591 (Keswick to Windermere Road) about 3 miles souith of Keswick. The Barn can be found 150m down the lane opposite and to the east of the farmhouse of Causeway Foot Farm. Please note that parking is limited outside The Barn, but cars can also be parked in the layby just north of the farmhouse on the east side of the road. There is a spectacular view of Blencathra from the front door of The Barn.
The Barn was originally converted into a bunkhouse by members of the BBMC in its early years but, following the Foot & Mouth outbreak in 2001, when farmers realised that they needed to diversify to obtain new sources of revenue, it was refurbished by the farmer and is now let as a camping barn to other groups and individuals as well as the BBMC. The BBMC does, however, pay a preferential rate, in recognition of the part it played in the original conversion and its long association with The Barn. The Barn will accommodate up to 16 people, but because it only has a single dormitory, it cannot be used with mixed groups of young people as its sleeping arrangements do not meet the BB's child safeguarding rules.
