About Virtual Peak Bagging
During COVID lockdowns, when most of us couldn't get to the hills, we started exploring mountains onlline using various websites. Although not as good as being physically in the mountains, it was the next best thing and the only possible way to enjoy the hills during lockdown. We then produced some web pages for all of the 4,000 ft peaks in Scotland and all of the 3,000 ft peaks in England and Wales. We called this our Virtual Peak Bagging Resource.
We felt that there was a need for a resource that provide information and links to other information aboutand links to websites that allow indiviual mountains to be explored online without having to physically visit the mountains. We thought this would be useful to anyone who live a long distance from the mountains and can't get to them as much as they like or anyone who cannot visit the mountains because of age or health issues.
After lockdown ended, we decided to do the same thing for all the Munros, but did not have the time or the web space to create a page for each Munro. Instead, we created a publicly accessible spreadsheet on Google Drive that contained the all the data about and links to a few more sites that would allow them to be explored online.
The spreadsheet was not very user-friendly. So, we have now written some Javascript code to enable the data for each Munro to be fetched from Google Drive and for a web page to be dynamically created to display all the data relating to that Munro, along with clickable links to other sites that provide views of and other information about the Munro.
Please provide us with feedback and if you like what we have done, and please tell others about it and help to promote it, in whatever ways you can.
Please also notify us if you find any mistakes anywhere.
Hopefully, we will get alll the attention that we believe this resource deserves.
