Glyder Fawr - 1,001 m (3,284 ft)

Glyder Fawr is the 5th highest peak in Wales and the highest peak in the Glyderau range. Like its nearby and smaller sister (Glyder Fach), it is an extensive plateau strewn with large boulders which are tricky to walk across. The height of Glyder Fawr was thought to be 999 m, but it was upgraded to a 1,000 m peak in 2010 after G&J Surveys took some accurate measurements using GPS

See its entries on Walkhighlands or Wikipedia or view it from above on Google Earth.

Glyder derives from the Welsh noun Cluder (commonly spelt Cludair or Clyder with the C soft-mutated to a G following a now lost definite article) meaning a Heap, Stack or Pile (presumably of stones).

Fawr is a Welsh word (Mawr where the M has been soft-mutated to an F, because it is an adjective qualifying a feminine singular noun) meaning Big, Large or Great.

Therefore, Glyder Fawr can be translated as Great Heap of Stones. You can see how appropriate this name is from the 360° panorama.
