Birth of The BBMC

Here we explain about some of the activities that we do.

Walking

Walking can be as hard or as simple as you want it to be. For example it could be a gentle stroll by the side of the stream, or an 18 mile walk to the top of a mountian, the choice is yours but we need to discuss and plan the walks before hand.
Just keep in mind that the walks that you particapate in could give you that bit of extra knowledge or even give you some memories to take back home with you.

Expedition

Expedition is all about exploring places. Sometimes in a day, other times over a few days, weeks or even months!
Before we can go on any expedition we need to be capable of looking after ourselves. We might be a few hours away from any help so it's important that we can read a map and navigate accurately. We also need to be able to treat the common injuries which sometimes happen.

Scrambling

Scrambling is the term given to the activity that lies between walking and climbing. Any route that involves your hands coming into contact with the rock to maintain balance and make progress.

Climbing

Climbing can be great fun but at the same time it can be quite serious and dangerous so you have to take real care. We can teach you how to accomplish climbs, how to choose the best roots, and even build self-confidence.

Skiing

Skiing like Climbing is a specialist activity. Sadly due to the climate (a distinct lack of snow) in this country, the only place it can be practised or enjoyed is in Scotland. Even then it's not that often the conditions are ideal. Because of this, many who do enjoy this sport venture abroad to climates were the snow is almost guaranteed.

Club members have taken an active part in this activity over the years and are happy to share information and provide advice, however it is recommended that expert tuition be gained. The best place for gaining this is somewhere where there's snow.
